Silly motivators, or whatever works!

Before I start, I love this post.

When I was a freshman in college I liked a boy.  A whole bunch.  As it turned out, we had the exact same schedule our first semester freshman year, save for our language classes (that happened to meet at the same time down the hall from each other).  I didn’t plan it that way, I swear.  Any morning I hesitated getting out of bed to go to Spanish or considered skipping my late afternoon class, I thought about seeing this boy and changed my mind.  Clearly, I probably shouldn’t have needed motivation to go to class when I was in college, but it did the trick!

So, jump to today.  As an aside, said boy crush and I are still great friends (but no, he’s not the one I married), and I’m thinking about going to the gym after work.  My gym, 24-Hour Fitness, happens to be one of the sponsors of the TV show, “The Biggest Loser”, and I saw a sign yesterday that there would be some TV show filming there on Monday and Tuesday (presumably TBL).  After failing to see any camera action on Monday night, I was a little bummed, but knew I might have a chance if I went back today.

After I walked the dog — my daily afternoon chore — I thought about how nice it would be to chill on the couch all afternoon, watch TV with Barkley and avoid physical exertion altogether.  Then I considered the possibility of being on TV and/or seeing some of the inspiring Biggest Loser contestants working out, and that was enough to get my behind moving to the gym.  It’s the little things, you know?  It doesn’t matter how silly they are, but if they work, they work.

Unfortunately, all the signs were down and production materials packed away by the time I got to the gym, but I wasn’t going to turn around and head home after all that.  I changed into my workout gear and hopped on the elliptical for 30 minutes.

THEN!  After a few minutes, I look around and who do I see but Damien from last season’s Biggest Loser a few ellipticals away!!  He looked great and was hard at work on his machine.  I didn’t say anything to him because I’m a wimp, but it was a really cool moment.

Now, onto today’s eats!

Ham and cheese on a roll

Around 1 lb. mixed fresh fruit


Chocolate chip granola bar

1c. coffee with skim milk and Splenda


2 eggs and 1 egg white cooked in EVOO on whole wheat bread with 1 slice cheese

Roasted sweet potatoes cooked with EVOO and a little bit of sugar

Not so bad, not so bad.  Sweet potatoes are my new favorite food this year; I think I’d make them every day if I could!  Since I love them so much I tend to overdo my portion size, which is a problem, but I can only tackle one thing at a time.  I haven’t tallied up my points for the day, but I think I’m hovering around 30-32, which is passable.  Exercise was the aforementioned walk to the gym and 30 minutes on the elliptical (level 3).
